  • Fruits and vegetables. Eating plant based foods such as fruits and vegetables can help bring back your estrogen levels to normal to avoid migraines. This is ideal for women who tend to suffer from migraines during their periods because their estrogen levels have dropped. Try to add more helpings of vegetables and fruits to your diet especially when you’re on your period to help squash migraines.
  • Low fat milk. Dehydration is also a likely culprit for headaches to occur so lay off drinking alcoholic and caffeinated drinks including sodium-rich foods to avoid this problem. A better option would be to drink low fat milk because aside from its hydrating abilities, it also contains calcium as well as potassium that can minimize the effects of eating a high sodium diet. Consuming three servings of dairy everyday can reduce your risk of obesity and diabetes too.
  • Fatty fish. Fish is highly recommended to anyone’s diet as it contains heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids that are good for your cardiovascular health. Another plus to eating fish is that it can keep migraines at bay. Eating fish two to three times a week can prevent migraine from occurring frequently. If you are not a fan of eating fish, you can take fish oil supplements to ensure that you are getting that much needed fatty acids.
  • Cantaloupe. Another food that can provide you with relief from migraine is cantaloupe. This fruit contains plenty of water as well as potassium which can prevent dehydration and offset the effects of eating foods that are rich in sodium. Cantaloupe also contains magnesium which can bring balance to your insulin levels. If your blood sugar levels are low, snacking on this fruit can help regulate your blood sugar to avoid migraine from being triggered.
  • Coffee. Some people experience headache when they drink coffee while others find it an effective tool in combating migraines. The caffeine present in coffee can help reduce the swelling or inflammation in the blood vessels which can alleviate the effects of migraine. Drinking a cup of coffee or two can help alleviate this problem. If you are sensitive to caffeine, you should choose other options to treat migraine.
