Gastritis Causes and Remedies

Gastritis is the inflammation of the stomach lining. Due to the inflammation, a person with this condition suffers from pain, which affects his activities of daily living. The following are the causes, signs and symptoms, and home remedies for gastritis.

Causes

Gastritis is caused by the bacteria Helicobacter pylori. According to Health Line, the microorganism infects the stomach lining. It can be acquired through contaminated food and water and it can be passed from one person to another. As per the publication, a weak stomach lining also permits the digestive juices to damage and inflame the stomach. Conversely, a thin or damaged stomach lining increases a person’s risk for the condition. It is added that some risk factors for gastritis include age, increased alcohol consumption, routine use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents like aspirin and ibuprofen, cocaine use, stress, autoimmune disorders, viral infections, and digestive disorders like Crohn’s disease.

Signs and Symptoms

Gastritis presents a number of symptoms. According to Patient Info, the symptoms include pain in the epigastric or upper part of the abdomen, just below the breastplate or sternum; indigestion or dyspepsia;nausea, vomiting, retching, bloating, loss of appetite, and a sense of fullness after a meal. As per the publication, food intake sometimes worsens the pain. While stomach pain is present in gastritis, it does not usually mean that the person is suffering from gastritis. One should see his doctor if the pain worsens and lasts for more than a week, if the condition begins following medication intake, if he vomits with blood or coffee-colored vomitus, if blood is present in the stools, and if he loses weight without trying to diet.

Home Remedies

While medications check the symptoms of gastritis, home remedies can also be done to resolve the condition.

Broccoli and Garlic

Two remedies for gastritis are broccoli and garlic. According to University Health News, both food choices are capable of killing Helicobacter pylori. As per the publication, broccoli contains a nutrient called sulphoraphane, which kills the said bacteria in the stomach lining. Sulphoraphane is also known to kill bacterial strains that have become resistant to other antibiotic medications. It is suggested to consume broccoli several ties a weak. Meanwhile, garlic acts as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antifungal agent and Helicobacter pylori is sensitive to it. As per the publication, the person may eat small amounts of garlic as tolerated.

Two other ways to control gastritis and its symptoms are exercise and stress management. According to Dr. Axe’s official website, a sedentary lifestyle and high stress levels promote inflammation, which leads to organ damage. As per the publication, doctors suggest exercising regularly for at least half an hour a day for five times a weak. In addition, exercise promotes the function of the immune system while controlling the person’s body weight, hormone levels, and stress levels. Meanwhile, stress increases stomach acid production and reduces immune system function, so some stress management techniques like deep breathing exercises, acupuncture, meditation, and tai chi help manage the condition and its symptoms.

The lining of the stomach is inflamed in gastritis, so pain is one of the main concerns of the person with this disorder. Thus, it is best to seek medical consult from a doctor for him to conduct a through assessment and history taking, planning, intervention, health education, and evaluation.
