Causes of Weight Gain That’s Not Due to Overeating

Don’t forget to repost this article on your different social media accounts so that your family and friends may also learn these causes of weight gain that most of them have probably never heard of.

Being Diagnosed With Diabetes

It’s no secret that diabetes can come with a wide variety of complications. One of those is obesity. This happens because the cells of people with diabetes are no longer responding properly to insulin, a hormone that facilitates the movement of sugar from the blood and into the cells where it can be used as an energy source.

Because sugar remains in the blood rather than being used for energy, they are stored by the body in the form of fat, which is something that can cause a diabetic to easily gain weight.

Having Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

PCOS is short for polycystic ovarian syndrome, and it’s something that affects about 5 million reproductive-age women in the US. Put simply, PCOS causes hormonal imbalance in the body of women.

There are many different signs and symptoms associated with PCOS, and some of them include irregular period, thinning of hair on the scalp, increased hair on the face and the rest of the body, and difficulty getting pregnant. Women who are diagnosed with PCOS also tend to gain excess pounds.

Retaining Excess Fluid

We all know that fluid retention can bug women during their period, causing them to gain weight. However, there are some cases in which the cause is a more serious one that requires diagnosis and treatment.

Certain problems concerning the heart can cause fluid retention, especially in the lower extremities such as the feet and ankles. Having a kidney-related issue can also lead to the same problem since it’s the kidneys that control the amount of fluid in the body. Experts say that liver disease can result in fluid retention, too.

Intake of Certain Medications

Women who are taking oral contraceptives and undergoing hormone replacement therapy may experience weight gain. A lot of those who were prescribed with antidepressants by their psychologists complain of gaining excess pounds. Certain types of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are also notorious for causing weight gain.

Having Food Allergies or Sensitivities

There are many different types of known food allergies or sensitivities. Those who have them often experience weight gain because of the obvious fact that their digestive systems are affected.

Consuming foods that a person is allergic or sensitive to may cause formation of excess gas in the intestines, which is something that can cause weight gain. It’s not unlikely for the lower part of the digestive tract to become inflamed. Constipation is a common symptom, too, which can further contribute to weight gain.
