Unfortunately, a lot of women skip exercising the upper back because it is not visible to them, so they cannot tell whether or not it is looking stellar. However, everybody can easily see another person’s upper back, most especially if a woman like you is wearing something that leaves it in plain view.

The good news is you can have your upper back toned just by regularly doing some exercises that zoom in on the muscles in the said area. And also, many of them can be done even outside the gym.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the exercise you should perform if you’re someone who likes putting on backless tops so that your upper back and shoulders, too, will look good in them:

Diamond Push-Ups

The name of this particular exercise makes it clear that it’s perfect for women. Doing diamond push-ups is just like doing regular push-ups, except your hands are positioned in a way that will help you really target the muscles in your upper back other than those that are in the chest area.

All you have to do is bring your hands closer to one another, and allow your thumbs and index fingers to touch each other and form a diamond. Now perform push-ups. You may let your knees touch the floor if you are a beginner.

Do 6 to 8 diamond push-ups per set, and try to complete 2 to 3 sets.

Plank-Ups

Just like what the name suggests, this is a combination of planks and push-ups. You might find it more challenging than doing planks and easier than doing push-ups, but plank-ups are guaranteed to give you a sexier upper back.

To get started, position your body in a way that it seems like you are about to do push-ups. Shift your body weight to your left arm as you bend your right elbow and press your right forearm against the floor. Bend your left elbow and take your left forearm to the floor. Straighten your right arm followed by the right arm.

Complete 6 repetitions per arm. Perform 2 to 3 sets.

Superman

This exercise will surely make you look super unforgettable in a backless top, especially when everyone sees you from behind. The superman exercise looks really easy, until you try doing it. You will immediately realize why it’s very good at toning the muscles in your upper back and shoulders.

Lie on your stomach on the floor, with your legs together and arms straight in front of you — like you are flying and looking for crooks to apprehend. Simultaneously, lift your legs, arms and chest off the floor. Hold the position for about a couple of seconds, and then take everything back to the floor.

Do 6 to 8 times, and try to carry out 2 to 3 sets.

Mountain Climber

No, this type of exercise that helps sculpt your upper back and shoulders does not require you to climb a mountain. All you have to do is get down on the floor as though you are about to perform push-ups.

Instead of lowering your chest to the floor, what you need to do is take your left knee under your torso until it’s about chest level. Take it back to the starting position and then take your right knee under the torso. Just keep repeating these steps as though you are struggling to climb a steep mountain.

Perform 20 repetitions per leg. Do you your best to complete 2 to 3 sets.
