We all know that our skin is the largest organ in our body, and because it is the one that we see immediately, we definitely need to take steps to keeping it healthy, smooth, and supple. Our skin color varies from one person to the next. This is one of the things that make us unique. But regardless of our skin color, hyperpigmentation can occur.
Hyperpigmentation can occur when we expose ourselves to too much sunlight. A good example of this is getting sunburn. Exposing your skin to the UV rays coming from the sun, the skin goes into the defensive through inflammation. This is barely noticeable, but when you constantly expose to the sun for hours, you will see that your skin will start to darken. Medication can also trigger hyperpigmentation as well as allergic reaction.
How to stop or treat hyperpigmentation? Fortunately, essential oils can be a good place to start. Here are some that you should try out.
Lavender essential oil
This essential oil can help reduce the appearance of rashes as well as irritation on the skin making it a useful treatment for acne-related hyperpigmentation. Add a drop of lavender oil to 4 to 5 drops of carrier oil in a small bottle, shake to mix, and massage gently on the affected areas.
Frankincense essential oil
Frankincense is not just about getting rid of the blemishes on our skin, but it is actually an effective treatment against hyperpigmentation too. Its exotic scent stands out among the oils in the market today, making it a great addition to your aromatherapy sessions. Prepare 4 to 5 tablespoons of carrier oil in a small bottle then add 2 drops of this oil in it. Mix the solution thoroughly. Apply the oil on the darkened spots on your skin.
Chamomile essential oil
Another essential oil that can help with the hyperpigmentation that may occur after an acne breakout is chamomile. This essential oil can be used on a daily basis to help lighten up your skin. For this recipe, you will need to combine five drops each of lavender and chamomile essential oil with 2 tablespoons of shea butter. Apply afterwards on your darkened skin to treat hyperpigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation may cause your skin to darken, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything about it. As a matter of fact, these essential oils can help bring back your skin’s original color soon enough.
