Alleviate Diaper Rash with Natural Remedies

Diaper rash is a normal occurrence in babies and adults who are wearing diapers or napkins. The constant chafing between the skin and the plastic can cause irritation which can break out in these red bumps that are hot to the touch. When the rashes become red and angry, your baby may feel uncomfortable and irritable whenever you change their diapers.

Is there any way for you to alleviate the issue?

If you are not a fan of using over-the-counter medications to treat diaper rash, perhaps some natural remedies can help. Here are a few that you should try.

Baking soda

Baking soda is often used as a natural cleaner in the house and in natural remedies, this is also one of the top ingredients in many treatments which is why it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that it can be used to treat diaper rashes. Mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda in 3 cups of warm water then soak a clean washcloth in it. Rub it on your little one’s skin gently then pat dry. This can be done once a week until the rashes disappear.

Breast milk

Your very own milk is not only for feeding your baby, but it can also help lessen the effects of diaper rash too. Applying some on the affected skin can soothe the pain and itching. However, the results may vary from one baby to the next.

Coconut oil

Another possible remedy that you can use on your baby’s diaper rash is coconut oil. This oil is actually one of the healthiest and is a good source of saturated fats that can boost your good cholesterol levels and at the same time, lowering your bad cholesterol levels. In treating diaper rash, coconut oil can help because it has antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial, and antiparasitic properties that can banish bacteria and fungi. Just add 2 tablespoons of the oil into your baby’s bath water and bathe your little one with it. You can use this remedy daily until the rashes disappear.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a good breakfast option, but you can also use it to help reduce the diaper rash on your baby’s bottom. This protein-rich ingredient can help soothe your little one’s skin and even reduce the itching and discomfort that they are feeling. Put a tablespoon of dried oatmeal in the bathwater and bathe your baby with it. You can use this twice a day to provide relief.
