Warning Signs You’re Not Drinking Enough Water

Drinking water plays a role on our daily lives since we need it to stay hydrated, alert, and in good health. But there are times when we are just so intent on our work that we barely notice that we are getting up from our chair to have a drink. If you think that going for hours without water is not doing you any harm, you’ve probably noticed a few tell-tale signs that your body needs fluids ASAP. How will you know whether you’re not drinking enough water? Here are some warning signs to watch out for.

Headaches

If you feel that there is a growing headache at the back of your head or at the front, it might be because of tension headache or you are not drinking enough water. If your headache is accompanied by lightheadedness, you are definitely missing out on fluids and will need to drink more as soon as possible. Without enough fluids in your body, your brain won’t be able to function better.

Dry skin

Another sign that your body needs sufficient amount of water is when it starts to dry. Since the skin is the largest organ in our body, it needs to remain hydrated as much as possible and in order to do this, you will need to drink up to 8 glasses in a day. As a matter of fact, dry skin is one of the earliest signs that your body is dehydrated and if you are dehydrated, your body won’t be able to make you sweat out the toxins that are present inside of you which means that your health can be compromised too.

Bad breath and dry mouth

If your mouth is dry, it might be that you are not getting enough fluids inside of you. Since there is lack of water in your system, your mouth won’t be creating enough spit to wet the insides of your mouth. This means that bacteria can thrive in there which can cause the smell when you talk. Getting enough fluids in your system can prevent this from happening.

Decrease in muscle mass

Another sign that you are dehydrated is the loss of muscle mass. You see, your muscles also contain water which means that, without enough water, there will be less muscle mass to notice on your body. Experts recommend that you drink water before, during, as well as after your workout routine so that you will feel hydrated, energized, and comfortable too. Hydrating yourself as you work out ensures that your muscles are getting fluids while preventing muscle aches and pains from happening afterwards.

Constipation

If you are suffering from diarrhea or are vomiting constantly, you might experience constipation afterwards because you have lost a lot of fluids. Dehydration can trigger constipation too which can make it difficult for you to relieve your bowels. Increasing your fluid intake can help loosen up your stool so it will be easier to release them from your body.

Sickness doesn’t go away fast

What other signs point to dehydration? If you are sick for more than a week, it is highly likely that you are not getting enough fluids in your body to flush the bacteria or germs out from your body. And it’s not just water that you need to drink but liquids that are enriched with vitamins and minerals that can help combat the problem inside of you.

Water is an important part of our day-to-day lives. Without it, we become susceptible to numerous health problems that can be easily avoided if we only choose to drink sufficient amounts of water every day.
