Tips on Putting an End to Your TV Addiction

Unlike being addicted to drugs, you are not going to jail or rehab for being hooked on the TV. However, still your health can be placed in danger because being in front of the boob tube all the time can cause you to become overweight, which is something that can increase your odds of having diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

And if munching on junk foods for as long as the TV is on is part of your habit, then your risk of gaining excess pounds (plus all the complications that it can bring) is considerably increased!

This article will give you some simple tips and tricks on putting an end to your addiction to TV. If you have family members and friends who seem to spend most of their waking hours in front of their television sets, then make sure that you repost this article on social media to let them know how they can put the serious problem to an end.

Install a TV in a Single Room Only

Do you have more than one TV in your home? Every TV addict should only have one television in his or her abode — the rest should be sold or donated to charity. Especially if you live alone, there is no reason for you to have a television set in every room — having one installed in the living room is enough.

Keep in mind that the only TV you have should be installed in any other room of your choice except the bedroom, which should be devoted to nothing but sleeping and of course that other thing.

Turn on the TV Only When There’s Something to Watch

Most of those who are hooked on the TV tend to watch everything without actually watching anything. This means that they simply go from one channel to the other, just checking what each one has to offer.

If you are like these TV addicts, then it’s a good idea for you to sit in front of the television set only when your favorite TV show is airing. Otherwise, you are better off doing something else like cleaning your home or doing yoga. Or instead of channel surfing, go surfing (the real deal!) if you live right next to the ocean to stay healthy and in touch with nature.

Take the Batteries Out of the Remote

Are you aware that the remote control is something that can make TV watching highly addicting? You can tell that you are hooked on your TV each time you are in front of it if you are constantly pointing the remote at the boob tube.

This is the reason why it is a good idea for you to remove the batteries from the remote control if you want to end your addiction to the television. You will realize that TV watching is not as fun and addicting without the remote. If you have to get up each time you have to switch to a different channel, you might find TV watching a bore.

Do Not Eat Anything in Front of the Television

Most people combine mealtimes with TV watching times, which is a terrible thing to do especially if the ones consumed right before the TV are chips, pizza, donuts, soda and other junk foods. Spending hours in front of the TV can lead to weight gain, and more pounds can be gained if it’s paired with snacking.

To put an end to your addiction to TV, refrain from having any food or beverage while watching — either eat something first before sitting in front of the TV, or finish what you are watching first before having a meal.
