Tips on How to Clear Clogged Ears at Home

There are instances when our ears become clogged that can leave us in pain, impaired hearing, and even experiencing an imbalance as we stand or walk. Clogged ears affect everyone with children being the more susceptible especially when they have a nasal congestion or sinus infection. Other factors that can cause blocked or clogged ears include:

  • High altitudes
  • Buildup of earwax
  • Colds, allergies, or sinus infections
  • Benign growth inside the ear

If you feel that your hearing is lessened of late, or there is a throbbing pain inside your ears, it may be that you are suffering from clogged ears. Here are a few home remedies that can be used to alleviate the problem:

Tea tree oil

This versatile essential oil has numerous uses and it appears that it can also help you deal with clogged ears. You will need to add a few drops of tea tree oil in boiling water then mix well. Tilt your head with the affected ear positioned over the steaming bowl. Allow the steam to loosen up the clogged ear. Take note that tea tree oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties hence it is useful in this kind of situation.

Ear drops

Ear drops can be used to help loosen the buildup of wax that may be clogging your ears. Among the ear drops that you can use safely are mineral oil, carbamide peroxide, glycerin, baby oil, and even hydrogen peroxide. Just a few drops of these ingredients can help loosen the wax, so it will exit your ear safely.

Alcohol and apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar can help deal with the mucus that may have built up inside your ear which is causing congestion. Another plus to this solution is that it can also treat the bacteria that may have triggered inflammation inside your ear. To use this treatment, mix equal portions of rubbing alcohol and apple cider vinegar then add a few drops of the mixture into your pained ear while your head is tilted. Leave the solution for a few minutes before removing with a cotton bud. When it comes to treating clogged ears, you will need to be careful with the tools that you are using. Avoid using cotton swabs as they simply push the wax further in. If you are unsure on what to do, head to an ear specialist who can drain your ear of any blockage.
