Remedies to Treat Dry Skin

A lot of people complain about having dry skin during the winter as the cold and dry air can remove all the moisture from their skin, leaving it flaky and starved for nourishment. Aside from the dry winds, there are other factors that can contribute to this problem such as vitamin deficiency, aging, as well as heredity. Most choose lotions and creams to solve their dry skin woes but they don’t really come in cheap. Fortunately, you can check out these DIY remedies that can bring back the natural softness of your skin.

Milk. When it comes to treating dry and itchy skin, milk comes in handy as it has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe your skin. Also, lactic acid is present in milk which can remove any dead skin cells on your skin while increasing its ability to retain moisture. For this treatment, you just need to soak a clean washcloth in cold milk then place it on your skin and leave it for 5 to 7 minutes. Wash the milk off your skin using a cloth soaked in lukewarm water.

Avocado Mask. Another treatment that can help solve your dry skin is to create a mask using avocado as its main ingredient. You need to get half of an avocado then puree it. Add a teaspoon of olive oil or a tablespoon of honey if your skin is really dry. Smear the mixture on your face evenly and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing. You can apply moisturizer afterwards for better results.

Coconut Oil. Coconut oil is one of the best remedies to treat dry skin. One reason behind this is that this oil has high amounts of fatty acids that can nourish your skin. To use this remedy, simply apply warm coconut oil all over your body before tucking in at night then wash the following day. You can also use coconut oil after taking a shower or bath to keep your skin nourished.
