Excited to whip up your very first batch of homemade Nutella? Check out this recipe that yields 12 ounces:

Ingredients:

2 cups of raw hazelnuts

1/4 cup of melted coconut oil

6 tablespoons of cocoa powder (unsweetened)

1 teaspoon of liquid stevia

1/2 teaspoon of sea salt

Directions:

-Grab a skillet and toast hazelnuts for 4 to 5 minutes using medium heat. You will surely know that your hazelnuts are already roasted to perfection if your kitchen smells like heaven.

-Transfer roasted hazelnuts to a large plate and allow them to cool to room temperature.

-Once already cool, reach for a small kitchen towel and rub it over roasted coconuts in order to remove their skins. Take your time so that you may be able to remove as much skin as possible.

-Place roasted hazelnuts in high-speed blender or food processor and then process. The goal is to turn those roasted hazelnuts into fine crumbs.

-Add melted coconut oil, unsweetened cocoa powder, liquid stevia and sea salt into the high-speed blender or food processor and then blend until the consistency is smooth.

-Give it a quick taste. If you’re not fully happy, add a little salt and/or liquid stevia. And by the way, if you can get your hands on liquid stevia in hazelnut flavor, the better!

-Transfer to a clean jar with a cover, and then stash it in the refrigerator.

That’s how simple it is to make your very own version of Nutella that does not contain any sugar or dairy. It may not boast of the exact consistency of Nutella, but its taste is pretty much the same. Besides, a slightly different consistency is a very small price to pay for enjoying hazelnut spread that won’t ruin your health and figure.

Just a few things before you start making homemade Nutella:

Feel free to adjust the amount of coconut oil used. If you want a thicker hazelnut spread, use slightly less than 1/4 cup of it. If you love it extra runny, use a little more than 1/4 cup of coconut oil.

Can’t get your hands on coconut oil? Try experimenting with some other oils such as almond oil and avocado oil. It seems like shea butter is also a wonderful replacement!

Aside from stevia, you may also use any other natural sweetener of your liking. Honey or maple syrup will help make the resulting homemade Nutella a lot creamier, and also make the flavor a lot more interesting.
