Reasons Why Having Clean Water is Important

Science has already proven that we can survive without any food for about three weeks at least, but when it comes to water, we need to have something drink within 3 to 4 days, otherwise dehydration will set in. The problem with dehydration is that once it sets in, your body can go into shock, until it goes into a vegetative state. Simply put, we need water in order for us to survive. Unfortunately, there are still several countries that do not have access to clean water.

Why exactly do we need clean water? Here are a few reasons to consider.

Prevents diseases

Without access to clean water, people are at risk of being exposed to various diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and even hepatitis A which typically happen when contaminated water is consumed. Not only is clean water necessary for your safety but also for your overall health as well.

Important to our food

Clean water is necessary for the foods that we eat, from the fish in the waters, to farmland animals, and everything in between. Even the crops that we grow need fresh and clean water to ensure that there are no contamination happening.

Better sanitation facilities

Clean water is essential for our drinking, but it is not the only use for it. As a matter of fact, clean water is necessary for sanitation too. We use water when we take a bath, wash our clothes, and others, so when we are using dirty water, it is highly likely that we become at high risk of being exposed to diseases. The same thing goes when we cook food, wash ingredients, and others. Lack of clean water for sanitation can put everyone at risk from dangerous diseases.

Important in water sports

Water sports, as the name suggest, are usually done in bodies of water whether in lakes, rivers, pools, and such. If swimmers or contestants will be exposed to contaminated waters, they are likely to be prone to water-borne diseases as well. Although we are making a lot of progress in cleaning up our water resources, there is still about 40% of bodies of water that still contain contaminants, making them unsafe for people to swim on or drink even. This is why water sports are limited to certain areas only due to the unsafe environs.

Gets rid of toxins

Another reason why clean water is necessary is because it helps the body flush any toxins that are present inside of you. Toxins can be absorbed by the body due to various bodily reactions, from other sources such as environment, or because you have consumed dirty water. Clean water helps remove any toxic materials that may be lingering in your system.

Reduce carbon footprint

Most of us are not really aware of the carbon emissions that are being produced with every bottled water that are made. You might be surprised to find that bottlers tend to use more water in bottling clean water than they are actually producing which is a complete waste of resources.

These are just a few reasons as to why we need clean water in our daily lives. From growing healthy sources of food, to growing healthy and fresh crops, flushing toxins from our body, and hydrating our body, clean water is vital for us. Without it, we are prone to diseases whether we immerse ourselves in water, drink dirty water, or even eat food that are actually contaminated by dirty water. It is important that we are able to secure clean water for us and our society in order to live.
