Natural Remedies for Dry Scalp

Dry scalp happens when there is not enough moisture and oil present, and although this may not be a big deal for some, once you start to itch and seeing flakes falling down on your shoulders, you will be scrambling to look for ways to bring back the natural state of your scalp. Medicated shampoo may be recommended to get rid of the flakes, but why not use natural remedies in the meantime? Here are a few that are worth trying out on your dry scalp.

Tea tree oil

This oil extract has been used to treat various wounds and skin issues that it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that it is also good for banishing dandruff and dry scalp. To use this remedy, simply combine six drops of tea tree oil with a tablespoon of olive oil then massage your scalp with it. Leave it for half an hour then wash it off thoroughly. You will need to do this three to four times a week.

Apple cider vinegar

The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar has been found to be effective in disinfecting wounds because of its antifungal and antibacterial properties. Dilute one part vinegar with one part water and wash your hair and scalp with it. Use warm water to rinse it off after a minute. If you have an open wound in your scalp, you should look for other remedies instead.

Almond oil

Another possible solution that you can use for your dry scalp is almond oil. This oil comes with immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory, as well as antibacterial properties that are worth taking note of. You can massage your scalp with a teaspoon of almond oil then leave it for an hour. This oil will draw moisture back to your scalp while soothing any itching that you are experiencing.

Salicylic acid

If you are dealing with dandruff on top of your dry scalp, using anti-dandruff shampoo with salicylic acid can be of good use because it has anti-inflammatory as well as antibacterial properties while exfoliating your skin. The acid can help soften any hardened skin on your scalp so you can easily remove them from your head.

Olive oil

Loaded with antioxidants as well as other essential nutrients, olive oil is another remedy that can help you treat your dry, itchy scalp. Massage a teaspoon of olive oil on your scalp and let it sit for an hour. Wash your hair and scalp thoroughly afterwards.
