How to Make Your Own Spa Kit

Taking care of your skin is one way for you to get into a relaxed state especially after a long day at work. Although most of us go to the spa to indulge on their much needed “me” time, not everyone has the budget to enjoy a day in the spa. So what if you are on a budget? This doesn’t mean that you can’t treat yourself to a much needed R and R because you can actually make your very own spa kit. Here are some recipes that you can make to go into your own spa kit for a soothing and relaxing day at home.

Peppermint scrub

For this scrub, you will need 1 cup of sugar, 5 to 8 drops of peppermint essential oils or your choice of scent, 1 ½ pint of canning jar, ¼ cup of coconut oil, and 2 drops of red food coloring. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the coconut oil for 20 seconds or until it has melted. Get another bowl and mix the sugar and coconut oil together. Add the food coloring while mixing it after each drop to spread the color evenly. Repeat until you have achieved your desired shade. Add the essential oil into the mix then pack afterwards into the canning jar for later use.

Floral foot soak

Our feet often bear the brunt of our weight and with the constant walking, running, and moving around plus being enclosed in footwear all day long, it won’t be a surprise to see the heels and toes forming calluses on them. Fortunately, making a foot soak to go with your own spa kit is not that hard to do. You will need to prepare 1 tablespoon of dried rose petals, 1 tablespoon of dried chamomile, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of dried lavender, ½ cup of salt (mineral-rich), 2 tablespoons of nourishing oil like avocado oil, olive oil, or almond oil, and 6 drops of essential oil (optional). Put the rose petals, dried chamomile flowers, and lavender in your coffee or spice grinder and pulse two times until they are all chopped. Use a mortar and pestle if you don’t have a grinder. Set the mixture aside. Get a bowl and combine baking soda, salt, and nourishing oil until they are mixed properly. Add the dried flowers into the mix and blend well. Transfer the mixture into small jars with tight lids and use for your spa day.

Peppermint whipped body butter

You definitely need to add some body butter to your DIY spa kit as it can help moisturize and rejuvenate your skin after a good scrubbing. You will need 3 ounces of pure cocoa butter, 4 drops of essential peppermint oil, 4 ounces of coconut oil, and 2 drops of red food coloring. Use a double boiler to melt the coconut oil and cocoa butter together. Put the mixture in the fridge until the mixture becomes opaque in color. Use your standing mixer to whip the cream until it has become fluffy. Add the oil and then the food coloring before combining thoroughly. Transfer the mixture into a canning jar for later use.
