Gout Facts and Home Remedies

Gout is a kind of arthritis. It is characterized by recurrent symptoms, which include redness, tenderness, warmth, and swelling of a join. It is primarily due to high uric acid levels in the blood. The acids become crystals which are deposited in joints, tendons and surrounding tissues.

Then, the prevalence of gout among males was 5.9 percent while the prevalence for women was 2 percent. In terms of race, gout was twice more common than it white men, with the cumulative incidence of gout landed at 10.9 percent among black men while 5.8 percent among white men.


Signs and Symptoms

Its acidic properties act as analgesic, relieving acute pain. As per the publication, a teaspoon of raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar is added to a glass of water. Then, it is consumed two to three times a day. Honey can also be added to the mixture to increase the body’s anti-inflammatory response. Also, the amount of the vinegar can be increased to up to two tablespoons for best results.

Baking Soda

Another home remedy for gout is baking soda. According to Natural Society, baking soda also helps relieve pain in gout, although it may take one to two days. As per the publication, half teaspoon of baking soda is mixed in eight ounces of water and the mixture is consumed in one sitting. The procedure is done few times a day, as much as a total of three teaspoons. Then, the dose is reduced as the pain subsides. As per the publication, the maximum suggested dose is four teaspoons and caution should be observed if the person suffers from high blood pressure, since baking soda may elevate blood pressure if consumed in large volume.

Fish Oil

Fish oil can also help manage gout. According to Dr. Axe’s official website, fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory propertis in the body. To add, fish oil has been proven to be an efficient answer for arthritis, not to mention that gout is a form of arthritis. Along with gout, cardiovascular diseases can also be prevented by omaga-3 fatty acids, which can be found in salmon, trout, and tuna.
