Essential Oils to Use to Treat Athlete’s Foot

About 70% of adults may experience fungal infections at one point in their lives, and one of them is athlete’s foot. This fungal infection is triggered by dermatophyte and is one form of ringworm. Athlete’s foot usually appears as an itchy rash on your foot with symptoms such as blistered skin between your toes, or it can appear as dry or even scaly skin that pops up on the soles of your feet.

Although there are medications available that can help reduce the appearance of athlete’s foot, you can also try essential oils to get some relief from the infection. Here are a few that you can try out.

Lavender essential oil

Research shows that using lavender essential oil on athlete’s foot can help treat it since it has anti-fungal properties. To use this remedy, mix 10 drops each of tea tree oil and lavender essential oil with 2 teaspoons of carrier oil like olive oil, coconut oil, or almond oil. You can apply this solution on the infected foot twice a day.

Eucalyptus essential oil

Another essential oil that you can use to remove athlete’s foot is eucalyptus oil which has been found to be effective in treating broken heels as well as blisters that appear on your feet. What’s more, it has the ability to nurture and even soften your dry skin. You can use this as a relaxing massage to prevent or treat athlete’s foot. All that you have to do is to a teaspoon of eucalyptus oil with about 2 cups of water and fill a spray bottle with it. You should spray this solution inside your shoes to help remove any fungal growth especially after your workout or training.

Tea tree essential oil

You can also use tea tree oil when it comes to treating athlete’s foot because it has antibacterial properties. Studies have shown that this oil is effective in eliminating fungal and bacterial infections. Just make sure that you dilute it in carrier oil to prevent irritating your skin.

Lemon essential oil

Aside from treating any infections in your feet, lemon essential oil promotes relaxation too. It can boost your blood circulation where it can also heal your body from the inside out. To use this to treat your athlete’s foot, simply mix 8 drops each of olive oil and lemon essential oil in a liter of warm water for you to soak your feet in.
