Dealing with Low Self-Esteem

There are times in our lives when our self-esteem takes a blow. It might be because of the people around us, the way we were raised, or when we suffer from an emotional let-down. There are many factors that can wound our self-esteem but no matter what they may be, we need to find a way to deal with this phase as soon as possible. The good news is that there are tools that we can use to keep our self-esteem intact which you can apply when you feel down starting with preparing your mind mentally.

You deserve more

When you are feeling a bit low and your thoughts are turning to negative ideas, hold them as much as you can and start thinking that you deserve more than these negativities that are ruling you. You deserve the success, love, and happiness just like everyone in the world has. Accepting all of these things in your mind can help change your thoughts toward the more positive.

Begin a compliment jar

You should begin a compliment jar. Write down something positive about yourself every day and put it in the jar. This can be something simple as loving the color of your eyes, the compliments that you get from someone, how good you write, and other positive things. If you are feeling bad about yourself, open your compliment jar and read everything that you have written down there. Reflect on what you have written and you will see yourself in a different light.

You can always live with discomfort

The problem with most of us is that we don’t want to hurt or make other people angry with us. We don’t like being judged or criticized too but letting others push you around is not going to help you one bit. Allow yourself to become angry especially when the situation calls for it, or stand up for yourself too. You’ll find that others will finally get the message and that you’ll feel quite empowered that you are able to say what you have in mind.

Start living in the now

One reason why we experience low self-esteem is that we put too much emphasis on what we cannot change or things that are too far out in the future that we envision all the negative things that may happen. It’s hard to predict what will happen in the future and then tell yourself that you won’t be able to make it. Instead, start living on the now where you can put more effort on what you can control.

Appearances are deceptive

The problem with comparing ourselves with others is that we often feel trapped in thinking that others are living very happy lives while we don’t. Appearances are deceptive so don’t think for a second that they are better off compared to you.
