Coconut Oil Uses Aside From Cooking

Coconut oil is a common ingredient used for cooking but if you think this is the only use for this ingredient, you might be surprised to find that there is more to it that what we already know. As a matter of fact, coconut oil has dozens of uses to it. Here are a few known uses of cooking oil that you should try.

It moisturizes skin

One of the best things about coconut oil is that it can actually moisturize the skin. A small amount of coconut oil can go a long way in moisturizing your body. Just get a small amount of coconut oil, warm it up if it is in solid state, then massage gently on your skin. This will help hydrate your skin easily.

It can be used as a hair mask

Another way to use coconut oil is to use it as a hair mask or hair treatment to moisturize, repair, and rejuvenate your hair and scalp. Coconut oil contains fats that are actually good for thickening and growing hair. You will need to warm it up first then apply on your hair and scalp and leave it on for half an hour or overnight depending on your preferences. Wash it off afterwards.

It’s good for your cuticles

Coconut oil can also help strengthen your cuticles too especially when you have dry, cracking, and flaking skin. All that you have to do is simply massage the oil on the nail beds for a few minutes and that’s it. If you want to do this overnight, apply the oil on your nails then wear gloves after.

It moisturizes dry lips

Cracked lips can be painful but if you think that using commercial lip balms will do the trick, try coconut oil instead. All that you have to do is to simply get a small amount of oil and apply on your lips. This will be more effective if you exfoliate your lips first before applying moisturizer.

It can remove makeup

If you are having a hard time removing your makeup or you have run out of makeup removers, coconut oil can help you remove all traces easily. All that you have to do is to rub a tiny amount of coconut oil on a cotton ball then dab gently on the eyes and skin. Let the oil seep for a few minutes then wipe it off afterwards.

It can be turned into massage oil

Massages can help remove the tension in our muscles but using lotions are not really useful. The good news is that you can make your own massage oil by mixing some coconut oil with a few drops of lavender or any other essential oil that you like. Again, a small amount is enough to work on your body. The smell of the essential oil will make your massage that more enjoyable.
