Ayurvedic Treatments for Acid Reflux

In Ayurvedic teachings, acid reflux is triggered when the heat that is present in the energy within the cells of our body, also referred to as Pitta, turns out to be imbalanced. Pitta can be found in the stomach and is often associated with that sharp, hot, intense, and acidic type of energy. Those who consume foods that are aggravating to the pitta, like citrus juices, onions, tomatoes, and vinegar, it can trigger heartburn. There are other factors too such as stress, sleep deprivation, antibiotics, and even painkillers. Fortunately, there are Ayurvedic treatments that can help reduce acid reflux which you can also try to alleviate this condition.

Avoid triggers

One of the best ways for you to keep acid reflux at bay is to avoid triggers as much as possible. These foods include spicy foods like chillis, jalapeno peppers, vinegar, tomato sauce, salted cheese, and yogurt just to name a few. Avoid these while you regulate the acid levels in your body. If you are not sure which one is your trigger, you can eliminate these foods from your diet then slowly reintroduce them to your diet.

Eat on time

Another way to prevent acid reflux from occurring is to make sure that you eat on time. When you eat on time and not skip meals, you will be able to prevent heartburn from happening. It is important that you have a good eating routine to follow to keep your stomach acid at the right levels.

Go for cooling drinks

Caffeinated and carbonated drinks are not really good for those who have acid reflux as they can cause gas to build up. A better option would be to go for refreshing drinks such as aloe vera juice and even fresh coconut juice as they are safer to your stomach. Another plus to these drinks is that they can help cool you down.
