Ayurvedic Cold Remedies to Try

We often rely on western medicines to banish our colds but with constant use, the body builds up resistance to the medication. Also, these medications don’t do much in eliminating the virus or bacteria itself but rather dries them up to provide you with relief but not completely eliminating the problem. What’s more, these medications can actually impair our body’s ability to respond to the foreign bodies that are wreaking havoc inside. The good news is that there are alternatives for you to try such as these ayurvedic treatments.

Facial steam

Clearing up your sinuses can be done with the help of facial steam. Simply boil some water and add 5 to 10 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil. Hover above the steaming bowl and place a towel over your head. Allow yourself to inhale the steam coming from the bowl along with the scent of the eucalyptus to open up the nasal passages. Hold this for five minutes while continuously inhaling and exhaling.

Licorice

Another remedy that can help ease your cold is to use licorice. Licoric root is known to help loosen up the mucus in your nasal passages to alleviate your colds and cough. Another advantage to using this herb is that it can fight inflammation while cleansing your lungs and stomach too. You can mix it with ginger when making tea. Drink it regularly to fight off any colds or even respiratory problems.

Cloves

You should also add cloves to your list of alternative solutions to your respiratory problem as it is quite efficient in combatting colds, chills, and even for disinfecting your lymphatic system. You can add some powdered form of cloves to your coffee or your tea or on your warm rice. You can easily integrate it in your diet to help reduce the symptoms of colds.

Hydrate

Staying hydrated is one of the best things that you can do to combat colds and other respiratory problems that you may have. One reason behind this is that drinking a lot of water and even water infusions can flush the toxins that are causing your colds to happen in the first place. Aim for 6 to 8 glasses of water per day or more. You can add some fruits to your drink if you like such as lemons or cucumber to get that extra dose of vitamins and minerals that can help speed up the healing process.

Rest

No matter what remedies you use to clear up your colds, if you don’t make time to rest up, your medication won’t work. Allow your body time to heal by resting. Keeping up with your erratic schedule when you’re supposed to rest will only make your condition worse.
