6 Things that Make You Break Out

Acne is a skin condition that a lot of people have to deal with on a daily basis. There are days when it doesn’t appear too much and then there are those days when your face just becomes red because of acne breakout. It is understandable that you feel frustrated at this point but before you blame your overproduction of sebum, you should also consider other factors that may be contributing to this skin problem of yours.

Aside from your genes, there are other possible triggers for acne breakout. Here are some that you might want to think about.

Too much spicy foods. Foods that are a bit on the spicy side will most likely contain peppers and tomatoes that are both high in lycopene which, to those with sensitive skin, can trigger acne breakouts. It’s not just spicy foods that can throw your skin out of whack because some people are sensitive to dairy products or other types of food. You need to do an elimination diet if you suspect that what you are eating is causing you to break out in pimples.

Coffee. Another possible trigger for your acne is drinking too much coffee. The caffeine in your drink can actually alter your skin pH levels hence breaking out. If you’ve been drinking several cups of coffee in a day, you will need to reduce your intake as much as possible and observe the results. Also, try drinking more water too as it will help flush out any toxins that may be causing inflammation on your skin.

Spot treatments. Most of us tend to use spot treatments when there are signs of acne breaking out. Although they can help dry your pimple up fast, too much can cause your skin to actually go dry and more prone to acne. Another problem with using spot on treatments is that the ingredients used can be too harsh on your skin.

Thick foundation. Women can’t go out of their house wtihout wearing any makeup but sometimes our choice of products can wreak havoc on our skin. Applying too much foundation on your face can actually clog your pores even more which can trigger acne. It would be better for you to ease up on your use of foundation or choose a product that is light on your skin.

Smoking. Another reason why your skin breaks out is because of smoking. When you smoke, it can reduce the amount of oxygen that your skin is getting. Aside from increasing your risk of cancer, cigarette smoking can also breakdown the elastin and collagen of your skin hence acne is triggered. Premature aging can also happen every time you smoke plus you are putting yourself at risk of various health issues.

Lack of sleep. Acne breakout can also be triggered when you don’t get enough sleep. Lack of proper sleep can actually weaken your immune system which can leave you at risk of acne breakout. If you are having some trouble sleeping lately, you will need to find a way to get your eight hours worth of sleep. There are many ways for you to do this such as meditating, aromatherapy, or massage even. Reduce the days when you’re up all at night and you’ll see a significant improvement on the quality of your skin in no time.

These are just a few factors that can cause your skin to break into acne. There are more for sure depending on your lifestyle, diet, and your skin care routine. If you know what causes your acne to flare up, it is best that you avoid it at all cost to maintain clear and blemish-free skin for a long time.
