Fruits are healthy and that is a fact. They are loaded with antioxidants, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. More importantly, they are devoid of bad fat and bad cholesterol. It’s exactly for all of these reasons why including them in your diet on an everyday basis is a wonderful idea.

But if you think that eating nothing but fruits will make you healthy, think again.

Just because fruits are loaded with nutrients doesn’t necessarily mean that they can supply all of the nutrients your body needs on an everyday basis. Don’t forget the importance of having a well-balanced diet, which is made up of different food types that provide different kinds of nutrients.

Here are some of the things that can happen if you eat nothing but fruits:

Osteoporosis

Calcium is a mineral that helps strengthen the bones. Some of the best sources of calcium are milk, cheese, yogurt, canned sardines and salmon, nuts, seeds, beans and some leafy greens.

If you eat only fruits, you may fail to get enough calcium, and also vitamin D which is needed for the body to be able to absorb calcium properly.

Malnutrition

Again, fruits do not contain all of the nutrients that your body requires on a daily basis for it to stay in an optimal shape. Due to this, you may easily end up malnourished if you eat only fruits.

There are so many different things that can happen to you if your body is deprived of the nutrients it needs, and many of them can be very serious.

Reduced Immunity

Even though it’s true that a lot of fruits are rich in vitamin C that strengthens the immune system, it’s still very much possible for your immunity to weaken if you go for an all-fruit diet.

It’s due to the fact that fruits do not supply your body with fat, and you need a little fat in order for your body to be able to absorb certain nutrients, many of which help strengthen the immune system, too.

Weakness

It’s a fact that most fruits are good sources of calories. But if your diet consists of nothing but fruits, it’s still very much possible for you to feel too weak to carry out most physical activities.

That’s because fruits do not supply your body with protein, which is needed for building and strengthening muscles. It’s possible for your muscles to shrink if you don’t add enough protein your everyday diet.

Obesity

Experts say that it’s possible for you to gain weight eating only fruits even if they do not have bad fat. The reason for this is the fact that a lot of fruits are very high in calories.

Just like what’s mentioned earlier, sticking to an all-fruit diet can make you weak and thus keep you from being physically active, and all of those unused calories from fruits will get stored in the body as fat.

Abdominal Pain

We need fiber for the prevention of constipation. However, this doesn’t mean that you can stuff your body with as much fiber as you want, which is something that can happen if you eat nothing but fruits.

Consuming lots and lots of fiber will surely leave your digestive system in distress, and a proof to that is a bout of abdominal pain. Experts say that too much fiber can actually cause constipation!
