Natural Ways to Cleanse your Colon

Why is Colon Cleansing Important?

The colon helps flush out toxins and waste from our body. It helps keep the body’s electrolyte balance by absorbing requisite salt (sodium) and water. While regular bowel movement does help in eliminating waste and toxic materials from the body, it is still important to cleanse the colon regularly to remove trapped toxins that attached themselves to the colon walls. When the colon is not cleansed thoroughly, the build-up of toxins in the colon walls can trigger health conditions such as diarrhea, constipation, colds, headaches, fatigue, indigestion, joint pain, allergies, memory loss, stress, and vision problems. This leads to even more complicated diseases such as kidney and liver ailments when not treated immediately.

The Natural Way to Cleanse your Colon

Colon cleansing literally means cleaning and removing the trapped toxins from your colon. It’s easy to do and there’s a vast array of medicines and non-surgical treatments for colon cleansing. The price depends on the brand and on the type of treatment.

There are also organic remedies that you can do at home. The ingredients are easy to find, safe, and the best part is, you don’t need to worry about suffering from side effects!

1. Eat Vegetables and Fruits that are High in Fiber for Daily Colon Cleansing

Vegetables are highly effective in eliminating trapped waste and toxins from our colon. The fiber present in vegetables help prevent constipation by keeping our stool soft and improving our bowel movement. Fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber help keep our colon clean by flushing out toxins regularly. It is important to have fiber rich fruits such as apples, raspberries, prunes, pears, etc. and vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, artichoke, peas, etc. in your daily diet. By eating these regularly, you’re already preventing the build-up of toxins in your colon. You may eat them raw, blend them into a smoothie, or make them the main ingredient of a dish you’ll be cooking.

2. Cleanse your Colon through the Triphala Herbal Treatment

Ayurveda highly recommends the use of Triphala in colon cleansing. Triphala comes from the word “Tri” which means “three”, and “Phala” which means “fruits”. It’s a natural laxative that’s made of Bhibitaki or Beleric myroblan, Haritaki or Chebulic myroblan, and Amalaki or Emblica officinalis. The linoleic oil, vitamin C, phospholipids, and bioflavonoids present in Triphala stimulates bowel movement and promotes the elimination of toxins and waste from our body. It also has nutritional benefits, making sure that the essential body reserves are kept from being flushed out of our system during elimination. Triphala can be sourced from online Ayurveda shops and health stores. To use it, just mix a glass of water and a tablespoon of Triphala. Drink it first thing in the morning.

3. Use Sea Salt to Cautiously Flush Toxins from your Colon

This remedy is not for people who have high blood pressure or other heart conditions.

If you really want to do it, ask your physician first and make sure that he or she is present during the procedure.

It’s best to do this remedy during the weekend so you don’t have to worry about leaving for the office or doing some errands. You will also need enough rest after doing this procedure.

Here’s how:

  • Fill an empty glass with water, pour the content in a pot, and let it boil.
  • As the water is boiling, put in a tablespoon of sea salt and let it boil some more.
  • After a few seconds, set the pot aside and let to cool for a bit.
  • Slowly sip the water.
  • You’ll feel a bit nauseous after sipping the salt water so lie down and rest.
  • You can massage your stomach gently.
  • You will then feel the need to go to the comfort room. At this point, all the waste and toxins are ready to be flushed out of your system.
  • Some more trips to the toilet may be necessary after drinking the salt water mixture.
  • Get enough rest during the remaining hours of the day.
  • Keep drinking normal water. At times, you may want to whip up fresh fruit juices and smoothies. Sports drinks are also okay. These drinks are important so your body can replenish the water, minerals, and electrolytes that you lost when you drank the salt water mixture.
  • Eat light meals such as steamed vegetables or chicken soup when you’re done with the salt water flush.

Note that this remedy is not for people who are suffering from weaknesses such as convalescents after a serious medical condition. Give it some time and wait for a couple of weeks or until you no longer feel weak before trying this remedy.

4. An Apple a Day Keeps the Toxins at Bay

It’s old school and you’ve heard it countless times since you were a kid but there’s some truth to the saying, “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. Fresh apples are effective in getting rid of trapped toxic materials in our colon.

Load Up on Apple Juice

Treat yourself to a glass of fresh apple juice when you wake up in the morning. Chase it down with a glass of warm water after. By drinking at least three to four glasses of fresh apple juice daily, you improve your waste elimination and bowel movement.

You can drink lemon juice or prune juice once you get bored with the taste of apple juice. You can experiment and add two tablespoons of lemon juice to a glass of fresh apple juice just to change the taste. Mixing some lemon with fresh apple juice helps thin out the mucus in the stool.

The Three-Day Apple Diet

If you still feel weak after drinking all those glasses of fresh apple juice, then there’s a possibility that you have a toxin ridden colon. One of the ways to treat this condition is by going on a three-day apple diet. Yes. That means you’re only allowed to eat apples for three days.

How does the apple diet work? All you have to do is eat apples and mix it with half a cup of refined olive oil before bedtime. You can have the apples sliced, whole, normal, chilled, or boiled. Drink a glass of water at least thirty minutes after eating the apples. After doing the three-day apple diet, you can start eating light foods such as other fruits and salads. Slowly make your way to eating heavier food items but do not forget to still include foods that are rich in fiber.

Warning

Ask your doctor before going on the three-day apple diet to cleanse your colon. This is not something that you can just do whenever you want to.

5. Water

Nothing Beats the Classics Water is one of the most common remedies for colon cleansing. It’s important that we hydrate ourselves daily so the different organs in our body can function properly. The recommended daily intake of water is eight to ten glasses. If you’re an athlete or if you have an active lifestyle, you will need to drink more water. As much as possible, drink a mix of warm water, fresh lemon juice, and some honey in the morning. This will improve your metabolism and stimulate the elimination of trapped waste which is essential in colon cleansing. You can drink normal water for the rest of the day.

By drinking enough water, you’re stimulating the natural peristaltic action of your colon which then allows it to function normally. You may also drink fresh vegetable and fruit juices, coconut water, fresh lemon juice, etc. Try to stay away from sodas and colas.
