You’ve probably experienced a crick in the neck from time to time, perhaps because you’re too tensed, or that you are hunched over your computer while working. It is also possible that you may have pulled a muscle too which makes it difficult for you to turn your head from side to side. There are many causes for neck pain to occur, this much is true, but the most important part here is how you are going to get rid of the pain that you are feeling. Well, the good news is that there are several natural remedies that you can use to alleviate the discomfort that you are feeling around your neck. Here are a few that you might want to start with.

Exercise

It is always a good idea to perform neck exercises to help strengthen this part of your body. There are several neck exercises that you can do such as moving your head in a circle or bending your head to the left with your left hand pressing it down gently and to the right with your right hand doing the same thing. Of course, it would be a good idea to strengthen your core too as it can help you sit properly and to keep your spine aligned to prevent neck pains.

Apply ice pack

One of the easiest ways to alleviate the pain on your neck is to apply ice pack on it. The cold temperature coming from your ice pack can help reduce the inflammation and can also numb the pain that you are feeling. If you don’t have an ice pack, you can use a frozen bag of peas on the affected area because it still has the same effects. Just make sure that you don’t apply the ice pack directly on your skin since it can burn or damage the skin.

Use essential oils

Another home remedy that can help alleviate your neck pain is to prepare some essential oils to massage on the affected part of your skin. A good example here is to mix a few drops each of peppermint oil, basil oil, lavender oil, and cypress oil, with a teaspoon of olive oil which serves as a carrier oil. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t apply essential oils directly on your skin as it might trigger irritation. These oils are actually known to reduce inflammation, fights stress, alleviate headaches, and easing the discomfort that you are feeling. Use this mixture to massage your neck muscles to feel better.

Take Epsom Salt bath

You should also try to take an Epsom Salt bath to help ease the tensions in your muscles, fight off pain, and reduce the stress that you are feeling too. You see, Epsom salts contain magnesium sulfate which is actually a natural muscle relaxant. You will find that there is less swelling and pain after a good soak.
