How to Quiet Your Anxious Mind

Anxiety can affect us from time to time. This often happens when we are expecting some news, preparing for a presentation, and what not. But there are times when these anxious feelings don’t just go away. Depending on how severe your anxiety attack is, it might leave you with shortness of breath, dizziness, and even erratic heartbeat too. With that being said, there are ways in which you can quell the anxious thoughts that are running in your head with a few steps. Here are some that you can try out.

Take a walk

If you are feeling anxious recently, it is always a good idea to take a break from what you are doing and go for a walk. Even a 10-minute walk around the block can help clear your head from whatever it is that ails you. There is a reason why it is nice to spend some time in the park, or go hiking, where you can be close to nature for your mind because it helps alleviate anxiety.

This too shall pass

You might think that your problem isn’t going away any time soon and that you are reaching your breaking point. But it is always a good idea to take a step back, breathe, and believe that this too shall pass. Usually, when you are at your wit’s end, you’ll find a breakthrough with your problem. You’ll see that things will be better soon enough.

Unplug when you can

Sometimes social media can be a source of anxiety too which is why you should try to unplug whenever you can. We often spend most of our time checking out our phone all the time, even before we get out of bed. What we see and read can be a source of anxiety especially when you see news that are close to you. It is always a good idea to unplug from time to time. You’ll find that going back to the real world, getting in touch with your friends in person, is considerably better compared to living in a digital world.

Find a distraction

Distracting yourself from the source of your problem can be a good way to lessen the anxiety that you are feeling. Play some game, go shopping, or even start a new hobby. You’ll find that it is easier to quell the anxious thoughts this way. Besides, you might pick up something new along the way which can be your go to solution when you are anxious all the time.

Being grateful is good

Make it a point to practice gratitude at all times and you’ll find that you are more composed, more peaceful, and more relaxed as well. Find things that you are grateful for in your life and you will find that you are less anxious this way.

Project positivity

Mind over matter works from time to time and it appears that projecting how you want something to turn out can be of good use. If you are feeling anxious, you can start by projecting happier thoughts to quell the anxiety that you are feeling.

Let it out

Anxiety can make you feel frustrated, scared, and angry all at the same time and when the first few steps don’t work, you can always let your anxiety out in any way you like. You can scream, cry, or put everything down in writing. You’ll find that you’ll feel better afterwards after letting it all out.
