How to Battle Insomnia

Do you often have problems sleeping at night? Do you end up falling asleep then waking up at the wrong hours? If you are experiencing all of these problems, then you may have insomnia. Insomnia is a pretty common problem that people experience now a day, and if left un-treated it can take a toll on your mood, health and ability to function.

Chronic insomnia can even cause some pretty serious health problems if left un- treated. But you do not have to result to sleepless nights every night, People all over the world experience this problem, so don’t be alarmed if this happens to you too, because this sleeping disorder is very easy to treat and can still be fixed without the need for medications, all it needs are some simple changes made to your lifestyle, and daily habits.

 

What is insomnia?

Before you can cure this sleeping disorder, you have to know what it is and how it is caused so that you can find a way to fix the problem before it worsens. Insomnia is a sleeping disorder that can be linked to some anxiety symptoms, that hinders the person to get a solid amount of sleep and prevents them from waking up feeling refreshed and energized.

Insomnia affects people in different ways, and because people get different amounts of sleep in a day, insomnia is defined by the quality of your sleep and how you feel after you wake up. Some people will misjudge insomnia for the number of hours they sleep in a day or how quickly they fall asleep, but it is actually the total opposite. For example, you have been getting a solid 8 hours of sleep, but still feel groggy and fatigued during the day or after you wake up, then that is what you call insomnia.

 

How to fix it

As mentioned above, insomnia can be fixed with a few simple changes to your lifestyle, daily routines and habits. There are a lot of ways that you can find new ways to fix your sleeping disorder, but if you do not know how to fix your schedule at night, here are some tips on how to help you get more sleep at night and wake up in the morning feeling like a brand new person:

  • Make your bedroom inviting – Most people have a hard time sleeping, because sometimes their bed is not comfortable enough to sleep in. if your bed room is well lit and not too dark, you can always try buying a few drapes that can completely take out the light from your room unless you open it. As for your bed, you can always opt to get more pillows, or buy a comforter that feels amazing to sleep in. you can experiment with what feels best for you, just as long as when you try to sleep, you get knocked out right away.
  • Limit your vices – Sometimes insomnia can be caused by excessive drinking, smoking and coffee, the best way that you can help yourself sleep, is to always make sure that you drink coffee at the start of your day, and make sure to drink a minimum of two cups a day. Also try to limit your vices to at least one or two sticks in a day, and two to three bottles of beer or hard drinks a week. After you have improved on your vices, you will notice better sleeping patterns than before you started minimizing your vices.
  • Exercise regularly – Always remember to get regular exercise. Insomnia symptoms can improve if you work out on a regular basis, but you have to remember that it is not a quick fix. It takes a few months for you to feel the effects of this on your body sometimes a year. Always aim for a full 20-30 minute workout everyday, but make sure not to work out too close to bedtime.
