Foods to Eat At Least Once a Week

The way we live our lives right now has probably reduced our expected lifespan given the amount of stress that we are constantly exposed to plus the unhealthy lifestyle that we are living. Millions, if not, billions of people already have shorter lifespans because of this. Fortunately, you can avert this problem by making small changes to your diet.

What goes in your body can affect your overall health which is why it is high time that you take your diet into consideration and start adding better food options to prolong your life. Here are some options that you should eat at least once a week.

Walnuts. Eating walnuts at least once a week can provide you with a healthy dose of fiber, essential fatty acids, as well as minerals. Fiber is important for one’s digestion as it helps you feel full longer. The fatty acids, on the other hand, protect your heart against possible health issues like heart attack. The minerals can help the rest of your organs to function properly.

Asparagus. Another food that should make an appearance on your dinner table at least once a week is asparagus. This is a good source of vitamin B12 and folate which are needed to ensure that your neurological system is functioning properly. Those who have low vitamin B12 and folate levels are prone to depression.

Spinach. Leafy green vegetables like spinach come highly recommended because they are low in calories but high in vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. Consume a cup of this leafy green and you will get nutritional benefits in no time.

Avocado. You should not forget to have some avocado at least once every week because it contains plenty of health fats. Eating this fruit raw or in a salad can help reduce your cholesterol levels so that your heart will be protected against various sickness like stroke and heart attack just to name a few.

Low-fat greek yogurt. Low-fat greek yogurt is not just for weight loss but it can also help you stay in the best of health. For one thing, the probiotics that are present in yogurt can help keep your gut flora intact. Aside from yogurt, you can also opt for fermented foods like kefir, kimchi, and sauerkraut to assist with your digestion so that your body will be able to absorb nutrients from the food that you’ve been eating.

Dark chocolate. Another food that you should eat at least once a week is dark chocolate. You can consider this as an indulgence if you like but dark chocolate actually has flavonols that can protect you against the UV rays. Eating dark chocolate can also improve your blood flow and even lower your blood pressure.

These are just a few examples of foods that you should have some at least once a week if you want to prolong your life. With small changes to your diet, you can protect yourself against various health problems as you age.
