DIY Remedies for Relieving Mosquito Bites

We all know how annoying mosquito bites can be as their non-stop itching can get on our nerves not to mention the swollen areas that are tender to the touch. What’s even more upsetting about this is when we see our kids scratching at them plus the thought of whatever disease these pesky creatures can bring. Although there are topical ointments and creams that can help relieve the itch and swelling, going natural can ease the itching and swelling too. Here are some DIY remedies that you can turn to when you have to deal with mosquito bites.

Aspirin 

Aspirin is not only effective in relieving headache but it can also be used to combat mosquito bites. Simply crush a few aspirins then mix some water to create a paste. Apply the paste on the affected areas. The anti-inflammatories present in aspirin can help deal with the swelling and itching easily. 

Green tea bag 

Another home remedy that can be used against mosquito bites is green tea bag. Put some green tea bags in a cup of water then place in a fridge. Place the dampened tea bags on the affected areas and let them soothe the itch and swelling. The cold temperature can deal with the itching while the antioxidants and other components of the green tea can fight off the inflammation. 

Peppermint toothpaste 

What else can you use against mosquito bites? How about some peppermint toothpaste? Peppermint has soothing properties that can eliminate the itch coming from the mosquito bites on your skin. Simply apply a small amount of peppermint toothpaste on the bites and leave them on to do their work. 

Honey 

What else is there in your pantry that can help you deal with mosquito bites? Some honey will do. Honey has anti-inflammatory properties that can fight off the inflammation on your skin. It also has healing properties which can reduce the swelling on your skin while nourishing it at the same time. Dab a small amount of it on the bites and leave it on until the swelling and itching disappears. 

Apple cider vinegar 

You shouldn’t forget to try apple cider vinegar when the itch coming from the mosquito bites is bugging you already. Apple cider vinegar has antiseptic properties that can eliminate possible parasites and bacteria that are causing discomfort to you. Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply on the bites. 

Aloe vera 

Another possible solution to your mosquito bites is to use aloe vera on them. The gel from this plant can help provide relief against the sting of the mosquito while preventing infection from setting in. What’s more, it can help soothe the skin too and reduce the swelling and redness. 

Baking soda 

Mix some baking soda with water to create a paste then apply it on the swollen areas due to mosquito bites. The antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties of baking soda can help solve the itching and swelling fast.
