Ancient Uses of Ginger

Ginger is a common kitchen ingredient in many households but did you know that, aside from making your meals extra delicious because of the added spice, you can also use it to treat various health problems? There are many ways in which you can incorporate ginger into your diet such as adding it to your food, your drinks, or even chew it on if you can stand the taste. What are the ancient uses of ginger, you ask? Well, here are a few known uses of ginger during ancient times.

Improve circulation

It is believed that ginger can aid in improving one’s blood circulation, particularly around the pelvic and abdominal areas. For women, ginger can help with the flow of your period too. In ancient times, ginger is often added to meals in order to boost blood circulation so that there will be enough oxygen flowing in your body.

Digestive issues

Ginger was also used as treatment for digestive issues such as stomachache, cramps, and the like. You will find that eating ginger can actually help provide relief from it. During the ancient times, ginger was incorporated into food to help relieve gas, stomach cramps, and even symptoms of food poisoning too. Surprisingly, it still can be used the same way when you have digestive problems. You can make a ginger and honey juice mixture by grating ginger first then adding to water with a little bit of honey. This makes it easier for you to ingest this spice to treat your digestive issues.

Fight inflammation

Ginger is commonly used in fighting off inflammation even during ancient times which is why you should consider this as part of your diet especially when you are prone to suffering from inflammation. Those who have been suffering from swollen joints because of arthritis have experienced significant improvement to their symptoms because of ginger. You can use it as part of your diet or make a poultice out of it to treat any inflammation in your body.

Alleviates nausea during pregnancy

It appears that ginger, even during ancient times, can be used to treat nausea. You can either take ginger supplements to help alleviate the problem or have some in your food or drink to get its benefits. Either way, you will find that ginger can make your nausea disappear fairly quickly so you will be able to function better once more.

Stops coughing

Ginger can be quite useful too when you have cough because of its anti-inflammatory properties. You can make your cough disappear by preparing some ginger with honey and lemon. To make this recipe, you will need half an inch to an inch of fresh ginger, half a lemon, and a teaspoon of honey. Heat some water first until it boils then pour it into your mug, add the lemon, ginger, and honey.
