Ancient Remedies to Boost Digestion

We need a fully functioning digestive system for our body to break down the foods that we are eating so that we will be able to absorb the nutrients that they contain. But with the current diet that we are following and the unhealthy lifestyle that we have, our digestion can be compromised. This can lead to various health problems in the long run. With that being said, it is important that we take control of our digestive system to ensure that it will be operating at 100%. How then can you ensure that your digestion is working fine? Well, these ancient remedies are worth trying out.

Timing your meals

In Ayurveda, it is believed that the body functions in tandem with Mother Nature. Since digestion is closely linked to the sun, and because this heavenly body is at its peak from 12 noon to 2 in the afternoon, the biggest meal of the day should be taken in these times. You shouldn’t eat anything at 6:30 pm onwards.

Fasting

It appears that going on fasting can actually help boost your digestion. Letting your digestive system take a rest from all the food that it has to process is worth it as it gives it time to repair and rejuvenate itself. Doing fasting can help reset your digestion so that it will be able to function fully.

Ginger and lemon

If you feel that your digestion is a bit sluggish, the best remedy is to have some ginger and lemon. You can drink some ginger lemon tea all day and have some fresh ginger with lemon too before meal time. On the other hand, if you have an overactive digestive system, choose pomegranate chutney instead to help prevent aggravating your digestion.

Find some peace

Our gut is often considered as the second brain in our body and because of this, when we are suffering from some emotional or mental turmoil, we often end up having an upset stomach and poor digestion which can lead to other health problems. With that being said, it is important that you find a way to relieve yourself of the mental and emotional problems that you are feeling to ensure that your digestion won’t be affected too much by them.

Skip the cold beverages

Another possible remedy that you can use to improve your digestion is to avoid drinking anything cold. It appears that drinking cold beverages can actually cause your digestive system to slow down. Water in room temperature will help get your digestive juices flowing.

Copper cup

It appears that drinking from a cup made from copper is actually good for your digestion as it boosts its function while minimizing the acidity in your stomach. It is also said to improve your bowel movement too.
