5 Home Remedies to Relieve Knee Pain

There are many reasons for pain in the knees to happen from being overweight, getting injured, or have underlying health condition. The constant wear and tear in the joints can also trigger pain and discomfort in this area of your body as you age.

The pain can range from mild to severe depending on the condition of the knees and although there are over-the-counter medications that can alleviate the pain, there are home remedies that you can try out too such as the ones below.

Apple cider vinegar. One home remedy that you can use to alleviate knee pain is apple cider vinegar. This is because apple cider vinegar has an alkalizing effect that can reduce toxins and get rid of mineral build-ups in the joints. To use this home remedy, you should add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to two cups of filtered water. Sip this concoction throughout the day until the pain subsides. Another way to use apple cider vinegar is to add two cups of ACV to your bath or hot water and soak the knee in pain for 30 minutes.

Ginger tea. Another home remedy that can reduce the swelling and pain in your knees is ginger tea. This is because ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that can fight off any swelling in your body and even get rid of the pain that comes along with it. Prepare ginger tea and sip it throughout the day to help alleviate the discomfort that you are feeling.

Lemon. If your knee pain is caused by arthritis, you should get some lemons to reduce the pain. This is because lemons contain citric acid that can dissolve uric acid crystals that form in the joints. For this home remedy, you will need to slice one or two lemons into small pieces then place them in a small cloth and tie them up. Dip the cloth in warm sesame oil and place it on top of the affected knee for five to ten minutes. You should do this twice a day to reduce the pain and swelling.

Epsom salt. Another possible home remedy to use for knee pain is Epsom Salt. The presence of magnesium sulfate in Epsom salt is known to help provide relief to knee pain since magnesium is a known muscle relaxant that can remove any excess fluid building up in the tissues. Once the fluid has been removed the inflammation and pain can subside. For this remedy, simply add half a cup of Epsom Salt in your hot bath water and stir well. Soak the affected knee in the bath water for 15 minutes. Repeat this remedy a few times in a week until the pain and swelling has subsided.

Turmeric. Turmeric is also helpful when it comes to alleviating knee pain because of curcumin. Curcumin is a known anti-inflammatory agent that can help reduce the pain and swelling. You can make some turmeric tea to sip throughout the day or you can make a poultice with some turmeric and olive oil and apply on the affected knee.
